Consultant – Psychiatry (Adult)

The Consultant in Adult Psychiatry is responsible for delivering high-quality specialist mental health services to adults within North London. As a key contributor to clinical excellence, the Consultant ensures safe, effective, and compassionate care while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.

The role requires advanced clinical reasoning, autonomous practice, and a strong commitment to evidence-based care. Core responsibilities include comprehensive patient assessment, diagnosis and formulation, development and implementation of treatment plans, monitoring clinical outcomes, maintaining accurate medical records, and contributing to governance, audit, and service-improvement initiatives.

The Consultant plays an active role in multidisciplinary meetings, training sessions, case discussions, and quality-enhancement projects aimed at improving patient experience and service delivery. Professionalism, empathy, resilience, and adaptability are essential, particularly when managing complex or high-risk presentations.

Alongside day-to-day clinical duties, the Consultant is expected to provide leadership and clinical supervision to junior doctors and wider team members, support teaching and development activities, and engage in continuous professional learning to maintain the highest standards of practice. Strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and strategic thinking further enhance the Consultant’s contribution to overall service effectiveness.
